My Interview with Steve McQueen

Steve McQueen

As far back as high school, I went after fun stories. As editor at Hamilton High School's Federalist Newspaper, I had the opportunity to interview movie star Steve McQueen when he was on campus filming The Hunter. You can hear me discussing the details on The Sound 103.1 FM's interview with Mark in the Morning here.

The interview was unique for a number of reasons:

1. I was only in high school. What high school kid has the nerve to ask the world's biggest movie star for an interview?

2. McQueen said yes to my request. What are the chances of that?

3. It was an exclusive interview. His previous interview was 10 years earlier, and he was refusing all other interview requests from established publications such as cover stories for Rolling Stone, Time, Newsweek, and many others.

4. It was his last interview. He passed away one year later.

So, what did I get out of the experience? I got the belief that even with seemingly impossible barriers in my way, I can achieve things I never thought possible. I can tell a story in a creative way that entertains people. I can make a difference in the world.

If you'd like to read the original interview, it's here.
